My journey began in the bustling streets of Lagos, where I was born into a family of educators. My parents, both university professors, instilled in me the value of education and the power of knowledge from a very young age. However, it was my uncle, a computer engineer, who first introduced me to the world of technology when I was just 12 years old.
I remember spending countless hours in his small computer repair shop, fascinated by the inner workings of these machines. While other kids were playing outside, I was learning to code basic programs and understanding how software could solve real-world problems. This early exposure sparked a passion that would shape my entire career.
The University Years
At the University of Lagos, I faced numerous challenges. As one of the few women in the Computer Science program, I often felt the need to prove myself. But instead of letting this discourage me, I used it as motivation. I founded the university's first coding club, creating a supportive community where students could learn and grow together.
It was during this time that I developed my first major project - an educational platform that helped secondary school students in rural areas access quality STEM education. This project not only won several national awards but also caught the attention of international scholarship programs.
The Stanford Opportunity
Receiving a full scholarship to Stanford University was a turning point in my life. Moving to Silicon Valley opened my eyes to the vast possibilities of technology and innovation. However, I never forgot my roots. My research focused specifically on how artificial intelligence could address challenges in emerging markets, particularly in Africa.
At Stanford, I met mentors who believed in my vision and classmates who would later become valuable partners in my entrepreneurial journey. It was here that the idea for AfroTech Solutions began to take shape.
Building AfroTech Solutions
Starting AfroTech Solutions was both exciting and daunting. I returned to Nigeria with a clear mission: to build technology solutions that addressed Africa's unique challenges while creating opportunities for local talent. Our first product, an AI-powered platform for small business owners, quickly gained traction.
The journey wasn't easy. We faced funding challenges, infrastructure limitations, and skepticism from international investors. But each obstacle only strengthened our resolve. Today, AfroTech Solutions employs over 200 people across three continents and has helped thousands of African businesses thrive in the digital economy.
Giving Back
My success has always been about more than personal achievement. Through the AfroTech Academy, we've trained over 10,000 young Africans in digital skills. Our mentorship program connects experienced diaspora professionals with aspiring entrepreneurs across the continent.
I believe that the future of Africa lies in the hands of its youth, and technology is the key to unlocking their potential. Every day, I'm inspired by the incredible talent and innovation I see across the continent.
